Narrative story 3344

Life as a dolphin is super fun and exciting. I get to swim all day and basically do nothing else. Well, nothing but eat, swim, and play with my friends. Being a dolphin is great. There are many things to do. I just love it when I swim by a little fish and it is all by itself. They always become scared and know that even if they try to swim away I will still get them and eat them as my meal. I may be the smallest in my group but I’m still the fastest.

I am the most intelligent dolphin you will ever meet. No one knows for sure how smart I am because I am too fast for them to catch me but they still keep trying until they do. I love playing games with the fishermen, so that they won’t find me. It’s almost as if I have some radar in my brain that tells me there are fishermen coming from certain directions. So, I try to swim deeper and faster so that I will blend in with the sea weed that is around me. My favorite thing about swimming in the big blue ocean is when I jump out and do flips and other neat tricks. I just love to show off to all of my friends and family members. Maybe one of these days I will slow down and just cruise through the waves like everyone else, but until then I will keep having my fun. In having all of this fun, I worked up such a big appetite that I need to now stop and eat.

Eating is one of the best things in the world. I can eat all day and eat all night. Eating tiny fishes is fun, but going after bigger bait, like squid are a lot more fun. Sometimes it may take me a while to capture one because of its tenticles. They just get in the way. Crustaceans are neat to catch. I laugh at them as they try to pinch me with their claws. Sometimes they try to trick me and by talking to me and befriend me, but I never let that happen. Of course I will talk to them for a while but then I always give them fair warning that it is now time for me to eat them and that I am very sorry. My favorite thing to say is, “It’s not my fault, I didn’t do it on porpoise.” I always laugh to myself when I say it, because of the fact that they can’t hear me, especially when they are inside my belly. With all of this playing around and eating that I have been doing, I believe that it is time for me to get some rest.

Sleeping is great. Yet, I do not sleep in a full asleep state. I always have to be aware of my surroundings and make sure that I am not a victim of a much bigger animal than myself. For instance, if a shark was coming at me from any direction I would not know about it if I were fully asleep. I need to be on the look out at all times. I mean when one of my family members or friends from my pod does get captured, that is when it is ok for them or myself as a matter of fact, to sleep in a fully asleep state. In captivity we dolphins do not have to worry about that kind of thing, but in the wild we do. I would let them put me in captivity before I would let a bigger aquatic animal have me as a meal. This would mean that I have given up, that I have let my guard down. Well not me, not now, not ever!

However, being in captivity would not be such a bad thing. I would be fed every single meal of the day. I would be able to entertain people from all over. Can you believe it, they would want to come and watch me do tricks. They trainers and their dolphins always happen to get along.

Being a dolphin isn’t all that bad. You just got to remember the important things and you will do just fine. The best thing about being a dolphin is… is… well its everything of course. I would not trade being one at all. We are cute, funny, smart, swift, but if you tempt us we can also be mean and cruel. So remember keep dolphins happy and don’t get them angry.
