We know that dolphins come in all different sizes, but there are also different species of dolphins. The Pacific Bottlenose and the Rough-toothed are just a few. They all have different characteristics but also they have different personalities. So why you may ask is it better to be one over the other, well there are many reasons. But I will let you decide for yourself.
The Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin is best known for their in shore habits. The bottlenose dolphins are probably the most popular of all the cetacean species. They inhabit the waters of and around Hawaii. They also live in groups of two to fifteen dolphins. Also, they are easy to spot. The bottlenose dolphin learns very well in captivity. They are trained to be performers. Also, they get along well with their trainers. They are very protective creatures.
The Rough-toothed dolphin got their name from the “wrinkled” surface of their teeth. This ahs many fine vertical grooves running from the gumline to the tip. You cannot identify this dolphin as easily from a boat because of its characteristics. The rough-toothed dolphin is very colorful, which this may help in identifying the rough-toothed a little more clearly. Sometimes researchers may refer to it as the “polka-dot” or “calico”. They are about the same size as the bottlenose but can be easily distinguished by their longer and more pointed snouts. These dolphins are found mostly in off shore waters of Hawaii. They are usually seen by deep-sea fishermen. They tend to travel in small groups of three of four.
Between the Bottlenose Dolphin and the Rough-toothed Dolphin, it seems that being a bottlenose would be a lot more fun. This would be because a bottlenose is more identifying and easier to spot than the rough-toothed. Bottlenose dolphins also tend to swim in larger groups and they stay closer to shore. I know that it I were in Hawaii, I would want to be able to see dolphins from the beaches that having to go out on a boat and see them that way. Plus, the way it sounds to me, is that the bottlenose dolphins are more common and a little more sleeker looking.
Also, as you can see, Bottlenose Dolphins are more playful and easier to train in aquatic stadiums and can be very successful in learning their tricks. Also, as I stated before these creatures are very protective of the things that surround them. Such as family or friends. If it were up to me I know that I would like to be the dolphin that everybody knows and loves. Jumping and flipping about, in and out of the water, sounds so exciting.
So now that you have learned some information about these two totally different dolphins, you yourself need to make the choice on which dolphin is more entertaining to watch that the other. Well folks, the poles are in and they seem to all agree that the Bottlenose Dolphin is much better than the Rough-toothed Dolphin.

Narrative story 3344
Life as a dolphin is super fun and exciting. I get to swim all day and basically do nothing else. Well, nothing but eat, swim, and play with my friends. Being a dolphin is great. There are many things to do. I just love it when I swim by a little fish and it is all by itself. They always become scared and know that even if they try to swim away I will still get them and eat them as my meal. I may be the smallest in my group but I’m still the fastest.
I am the most intelligent dolphin you will ever meet. No one knows for sure how smart I am because I am too fast for them to catch me but they still keep trying until they do. I love playing games with the fishermen, so that they won’t find me. It’s almost as if I have some radar in my brain that tells me there are fishermen coming from certain directions. So, I try to swim deeper and faster so that I will blend in with the sea weed that is around me. My favorite thing about swimming in the big blue ocean is when I jump out and do flips and other neat tricks. I just love to show off to all of my friends and family members. Maybe one of these days I will slow down and just cruise through the waves like everyone else, but until then I will keep having my fun. In having all of this fun, I worked up such a big appetite that I need to now stop and eat.
Eating is one of the best things in the world. I can eat all day and eat all night. Eating tiny fishes is fun, but going after bigger bait, like squid are a lot more fun. Sometimes it may take me a while to capture one because of its tenticles. They just get in the way. Crustaceans are neat to catch. I laugh at them as they try to pinch me with their claws. Sometimes they try to trick me and by talking to me and befriend me, but I never let that happen. Of course I will talk to them for a while but then I always give them fair warning that it is now time for me to eat them and that I am very sorry. My favorite thing to say is, “It’s not my fault, I didn’t do it on porpoise.” I always laugh to myself when I say it, because of the fact that they can’t hear me, especially when they are inside my belly. With all of this playing around and eating that I have been doing, I believe that it is time for me to get some rest.
Sleeping is great. Yet, I do not sleep in a full asleep state. I always have to be aware of my surroundings and make sure that I am not a victim of a much bigger animal than myself. For instance, if a shark was coming at me from any direction I would not know about it if I were fully asleep. I need to be on the look out at all times. I mean when one of my family members or friends from my pod does get captured, that is when it is ok for them or myself as a matter of fact, to sleep in a fully asleep state. In captivity we dolphins do not have to worry about that kind of thing, but in the wild we do. I would let them put me in captivity before I would let a bigger aquatic animal have me as a meal. This would mean that I have given up, that I have let my guard down. Well not me, not now, not ever!
However, being in captivity would not be such a bad thing. I would be fed every single meal of the day. I would be able to entertain people from all over. Can you believe it, they would want to come and watch me do tricks. They trainers and their dolphins always happen to get along.
Being a dolphin isn’t all that bad. You just got to remember the important things and you will do just fine. The best thing about being a dolphin is… is… well its everything of course. I would not trade being one at all. We are cute, funny, smart, swift, but if you tempt us we can also be mean and cruel. So remember keep dolphins happy and don’t get them angry.
