Question: What are some examples of Pre/ During/ Post strategie? How do these strategies help students?
Pre strategies: doing a book walk or predeicting what is going to happen in the text.
During strategies: asking questions while reading a story, talking about what is happening and having students guess what will happen next in the story
Post strategies: Asking them questions in a test form about what they just read or having the students do a project about the story that they just finished reading.
These strategies help students because they tend to learn more than just reading the book and talking about it at the end. It is important to get the students involved in what they are reading. They also tend to learn more doing different activities before, during, and after reading. If the experience is fun for them they grasp what they are reading. If not then they just tend to put it aside and not remember.
Before reading a story, like If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, to get them interested itwould be fun to give them each a cookie while you do the book walk.
While you are reading them the story you could, have a book box that has items from the book inside and have the students guess what you will pull out of the box that would happen to come next in the story.
After you ahve finished the book, you could have them answer some questions in the form of a game and then have them do a group project where they have to somehow show in order what happened in the story.
This helps a student have fun with what they are reading instead of just having them sit there and listen and get distracted by things around them. I know that I used to have that problem. I can't wait to help students with their reading and get them interested in books. Reading is so much fun!!!

I like the idea of working on a group project to review the sequence of events from the reading. Again, I agree, with the level of interest from the child, the learning follows. If they get involved and eager to learn on the subject, they take in the information and yearn for more. Reading is fun!! :>)
ReplyDeleteI am also excited about becoming a teacher so that I can inspire my furure students to develop a love for reading. I think it is such an awsome responsibility because some children do not get that at home. I developed a love for reading and learning at a young age from my mother. I am grateful for that because I don't think I would be quite where I am today if it wasn't for her. I want to take what she gave me and pass it onto my students. From there, hopefully a cycle will start where my students will do the same thing in return.
ReplyDeleteGot it - good job:)
